All about Eli Armstrong

Eli Armstrong is a great tennis player and a great teacher.

"I love taking lessons from Eli. He's helped me enormously. I love playing him also. He gives me a great workout." -- Harry Newton

The Old Chatham Tennis Club is very happy and fortunate to have Eli Armstrong join its staff of tennis coaches. Eli brings a wealth of tennis experience and knowledge that will help to elevate the skills and abilities of our tennis community.

Eli was born on the Island of Antigua and moved to the Bronx when he was around nine years old. At the age of 10 Eli was introduced to the game of tennis and began playing at the Stadium Courts which were adjacent to the old Yankee Stadium. Eli fell in love with the game and forty five years later he tells us that he is still as passionate about the sport as he was back in the Bronx.

Eli attended the College of St Rose and had quite a memorable basketball career there. He led the basketball team to three consecutive conference titles and held a number of records in basketball; most points in a career, most steals, most points in a single game and most assists.

After graduating from the College of St. Rose Eli returned to Antigua where he founded and managed The Armstrong Tennis Academy (the ATA). The ATA was responsible for producing Antigua's elite tennis players. The academy produced a number of ITF (International Tennis Federation) world ranked junior players who went on to achieve tennis scholarships at US universities & colleges. The ATA also produced seven junior players who were ranked in the top five in the Central America and The Caribbean region in 14 & under.

While in Antigua, Eli also worked with the Antigua & Barbuda government as an economic adviser in the prime ministers office for over seventeen years (while also teaching tennis).

Here are some of Eli's accomplishments:

-President/founder of Armstrong Tennis Academy
-Davis Cup player/captain/coach for Antigua & Barbuda
-ITF certified coach
-USPTR certified professional
-PanAm Games team player & captain
-Former National Champion in singles & doubles for Antigua & Barbuda
-Tennis director for a number of leading resorts in Antigua and Anguilla
-Coached the Antigua under 14 team to the ITF championship in 2008

So there is a bit of history on Elijah Armstrong. We encourage our members to take full advantage of Eli's experience and knowledge. Eli will be available for private, semi-private and group lessons. Eli will also be working very closely with our other coaches in developing programs and activities that will benefit members of our club and community.

If you would like to schedule a lesson with Eli, shoot us an email JGerrain@gmail.com or call the club on 518-392-7966.
